Confederation Weapons Technology

Laser Cannons

The basic light weapon of the Family militaries, the laser cannons are mounted on fighters. The turret version is found on corvettes as primary weapons, while working as secondary anti-fighter weaponry on larger warships. Hand-held versions are the standard Peloran infantry weapon.

Rail Cannons

Long the basic heavy weapon of the Confederation forces, they smaller versions are seen on many fighters and bombers, while the heavier versions are found on nearly every warship of frigate class or above. A simple lance of metal fired by an electromagnetic rail, they are inaccurate at long range, but at short range they are very deadly, designed to punch through armor before fracturing into thousands of smaller pieces to rupture internal compartments. One of the fighter-class rail cannons offers fully automatic fire that can shred an opponent's internal systems if heavier weapons can punch a hole in the armor. Shoulder-slung and vehicle-mounted versions of this weapon are used by the armies.

Missiles

Including a series of four main missile types, the smallest are seen on some fighter craft. The heavy missile is seen on many bombers and gunboats for heavy hitting power against the smaller warships. The Avenger class missile is a recent devolopement that is already being fitted on some gunboats and capital ships. More powerful then a standard heavy missile, they are fired from a "gun" that accellerateds them up to a high speed. The largest and most powerful of the missiles are the capital class ship killer missiles which are actually large enough to be fired through warp points and able to find its own targets once on the other side. Able to destroy a smaller ship in a single blast, they are usually used against larger targets. All missiles have been upgraded over the years to include advanced seeking packages, control systems, and ecm packages, and can be outfitted with multiple warhead types. The standard warhead is nuclear. Confederation doctrine enshrines ejecting them from the launch bays with delayed activation times, or ordering them to arc around the target and hit the enemy from other directions. The fighter version is seen on some of the heaviest assault vehicles in the armies.

Electron Cannons

The newest heavy weapon in the Peloran arsenal, the larger versions are only seen on ships of destroyer class or above because of their energy requirement. Some fighters carry smaller versions for extra firepower, as do many bombers and gunboats. The Duron Family has recently developed a turreted version for use on their warships as well. The basic Electron Cannon fires a single lance of energy at an enemy, holding it on target for several seconds for maximum armor penetration. Shoulder-slung and vehicle-mounted versions of this weapon are used for assault troops in the armies.

Mines

The basic warp point defense mechanism, some mount onboard lasers, others missiles, and some even have more powerful electron cannons. The older ones that simply home in on an enemy and explode are being phased out of service as they are not (for obvious reasons) reusable.

Stealth ECM
Capable of masking a unit's energy signitures, this technology makes the Confederation forces all but impossible to detect unless they wish to be seen. All Confederation ships, civilian cargo ships, space stations, mines, small craft, and warships mount these systems, though obviously the civilian grade stealth is not as good as military, and the Gwynyth stealth systems outpace the other Great Families. While not as effective at close weapons range, it still does make targeting difficult.
