The Cronyl War Fleets

The Cronyl fleet is built around fighters, and all other ships are used with the intention of protecting the fighters and their precious carriers from destruction. They mount advanced polymer armor on their ships for increased mobility. Cronyl ships as a whole are two-thirds the size of other races ships of the same class due to the smaller size of the Pelorans. A one meter tall race does not require two meters of head room in the hallways...hehehe. This combined with the ecm mounted on all ships means that Cronyl ships are hard to hit...

Myrcat class Assault Carrier

A recent design, the Myrcat class assault carrier is easily as powerful as the century-old Llew's Fire. Mounting thirteen capital-class missile launchers and ten reloads for each, she can maintain missile fire twice as long as most warships. She can also fire thirty-five bomber-class missiles at once and is defended by fifty-five photon turrets in each arc.

Llew's Fire class Assault Carrier

Built using captured Alkari technology during the Alkari War, the Llew's Fire was the tip of the sword the Cronyl Family used to fight the Alkari when the Grand Alliance offensive began. The last century has seen it slowly upgraded and refitted as new technologies came out, keeping it as the pride of the Cronyl War Fleets. Mounting six forward-firing photon cannons, ten capital-class missile launchers, and thirty bomber-class missile launchers, she can easily fight a battleship in a straight up slugging match without bringing her small craft squadrons in to play. Also protected by fifty small photon turrets in each arc, she can handle her own share of enemy fighters as well.

Llew's Shield class Dreadnaught

The Llew's Shield and Llew's Sword were built to protect the Llew's Fire. They have no other mission. While the carrier can protect herself well, Cronyl Family does not wish to put all of its eggs in one basket without defending it properly. They mount eight photon cannons fore and aft, as well as twenty capital-class missile launcher on turrets capable of firing in all directions. It is also defended by forty photon turrets against fighters in each arc.

Crawyl class Fleet Carrier

Mounting heavier armor, shielding, and weaponry, these ships take enemy fire much better then their lighter cousins. Mounting two capital-class missile launchers in their bows with five rounds each, and five more designed to fire the bomber-sized missiles for a nearly limitless number on board, supported by twenty photon turrets into all arcs this ship can actually be used in fleet engagements after launching her ten small craft squadrons. Based on their cost and time to build however, this is not considered standard operating procedure.

Y'ornyl class Light Carrier

One of the oldest designs in the Cronyl fleet, they mounts no heavy weapons, but have ten photon turrets in each arc like corvettes. Their main offensive weapon is of course the vaunted warrior pilots of the four squadrons of small craft they carry. The Cronyl Family once used them as fleet flagships but that position is now held by their heavier cousins, though the Y'ornyls still support the heavier carriers in the standard fleet deployments.

Mynkal class Cruiser

Once the heaviest escorts in the Cronyl Family fleet, they mount three photon cannons fore and aft, four capital-class missile bays, and five electromagnetic launch rails and twenty photon turrets each foreward, aft, port, and starboard. Also mounting heavier armor then most other escorts, they can absorb more damage before being forced to retreat from battle.

R'gardyr class Escort Carrier

Tasked with commanding system security fleets, the R'gardyrs rarely go anywhere without heavy frigate and corvette support. Mounting minimal armor and only five photon turrets in each arc for anti-fighter fire, they are easy to kill if seperated from their escorts. The gunboats they normally carry though have easily proven themselves to be a menace to pirates and smugglers.

Trynwall class Destroyer

Mounting two photon cannons and three capital-class missile bays to the front, along with two electromagnetic launch rails and eight photon turrets into each of the four arcs, they are a pre-Alkari War design that has been refitted several times in the last century.

Vrytarn class Frigate

Mounting two capital-class missile bays and ten avenger-class launchers in the bow, as well as one to each of the other arcs accompanied by six photon turrets, this class of ship is not considered a true capital class warship, but instead is more of a raider or convoy protector. It was designed by a Cronyl team during the early days of the Alkari War after a "representative" of Duron Family "gave" them the avenger technology and did well when the fighting got hot in the war.

Tristan class Frigate

Purchased from the Gwynyth during the Alkari War, the standard Tristan mounts two missile bays and four foreward-firing electromagnetic launch rails, one rail to each of the other arcs, and fourteen photon turrets in each arc. This class of ship is not considered a true capital class warship by todays standards, but instead is used as a security force command ship. They are seen supporting the primary Cronyl battlelines when needed though.

Gryslan class Missile Frigate

An Alkari War era ship designed by a joint Cronyl-Gwynyth design team the Gryslan class discards the electromagnetic rails on normal frigates and replaces them with more capital class missile bays, making her an excellent battleline support ship. A total of five missile tubes with standard loads make this a dangerous ship when firing from long range in stealth mode. The tubes are supported by fourteen photon turrets in all arcs to fend off fighters in case they are caught, though the turrets are of limited use against all but the smallest starships.

Vyron class Corvette

Mounting a single missile bay for long range bombardment, the corvette's main weapons array is the twelve photon turrets pointing foreward, aft, port, and starboard. Maintaining a halfway position between gunboat and frigate, they are often used to fight fighters or other small craft in support of frigates or their own fighters. The ship shown is the standard Gwynyth-Cronyl Family designed ship that first saw light during the Alkari War, though many of the Lesser Families aligned with two Great Families build their own designs.

New technology incorporated into many Confederation small craft classes allows for the use of modular equipment packs that allow them to have more abilities then the older versions did. Some craft can only support 1 mount while others support 2 mounts. A heavy mount will usually drop speed and agility by 1 but boost another stat by 2. A light mount will usually drop only agility by 1 and boost another stat by 1. Two light mounts will have the same detrimental effects as a single heavy mount. A craft that can carry two mounts must always maintain balance with the same equipment packs on each side of the craft, so bonuses and detrimental effects are doubled.

The following packs can be used to increase speed or agility. When used, the light engine pack will counteract the loss of speed when adding a second light pack and push the second point loss over to agility. The light manuevering pack does the opposite, pushing the first point loss of agility over to speed. As they countereffect each other, they are never used in tandem. Also, the engine and manuevering packs effect only their opposite stat for detrimental effects.

Brylar and Rynar class Fighters

The primary offensive arm of Cronyl Family, and the goal of every warrior to achieve, the old Brylars are armed with six small photon lasers, two banks of three missiles for anti-fighter use, and are highly manueverable. Only the best warriors are allowed to become fighter pilots, and letting him or her self slip in performance is a sure way of being a target of a trial of possession for his or her fighter. Cronyl fighters are considered to be in the care of the warrior as long as he or she pilots it and nearly all warriors take pride in decorating them to their own wishes.

The newer Rynar class fighters designed during the Alkari War are capable of atmospheric flight as well as spaceflight and are sometimes seen practicing the art of strafing enemy troop formations, even though the action is considered distastefull in the extreme by the Cronyl Warriors. They carry four heavier photon cannons and have a weapons bay capable of holding six missiles or bombs in their belly. The bay is also designed to carry a single modular heavy weapons pack (HWP) like those found on the gunboats and bombers in place of the bombs or missiles. Many warriors have stubbornly stuck to their older but (they claim) more trustworthy fighters, and some studies suggest that the older fighters may be better able to handle damage because of their design. The new Mark 15 is designed to use the new equipment packs coming off the lines now. It is able to mount one heavy weapons pack or two light weapons packs.

Vrynatyl class Bomber

The heavy weapon of the small craft, they mount a single photon laser slung under their nose and two modular weapons packs under each wing for heavy weapons support. Rail cannons, missiles and bombs, and sometimes even bomber-class photon cannons are attached to these mounts, and can be delivered to targets in space or on a planetary surface. It can also mount lighter weapons packs for use against fighters that give it increased agility and speed at the cost of firepower. The Mark 19 allows for using a set of heavy or two sets of light equipment packs now coming off the production lines. It mounts twice as much base firepower as the older models at the cost of reduced range.

Vrytral class Gunboat

The smallest jump-capable craft in the Confederation Navy, they carry two onboard photon cannons and have two modular weapons mounts for heavy weapons. A century's worth of upgrades have made the Vrytral a respected member of the Cronyl fleet. Originally, the warriors did not like the crew concept, but as designers allowed the pilot to fire the weapons as well as fly, they became more accepted. An odd relationship very similar to that of old Terra's Knights and Squires has slowly become the norm in the fleets with the "squires" controlling the electronic warfare systems and having an override control for the heavy weapons mounts when needed. The Mark 38 is a new generation of gunboat that can use the new standard equipment packs coming off the lines. Like other large small craft, she can mount a set of heavy packs or two sets of light packs. The base version mounts a third photon cannon not used on earlier designs.

AWACS

Packed full of electronics behind the cockpit, these craft are designed to be the eyes and ears of the Cronyl fleets. To the great disgust of the pilots though, only having room for two small photon lasers, they are considered to be nearly useless in combat. Very few Cronyl ever volunteer for service on one of these, and the AWACS craft with art proudly applied by its pilot is rare.

Communications ships

Mounting ten photon turrets into each arc, these ships can defend themselves against fighters, but tend to avoid combat as much as possible. Their main mission is to keep a fleet in contact with other star systems with its hypercomm. Designed to look like other Cronyl ships, usually frigates so they do not become targeted by enemy fire, no picture is given.

Transports

Transports - Mounting ten photon turrets in each arc like the comm ships, they also tend to avoid conflict when possible. Their main mission is to transport ground forces and sometimes colonization teams in between planets.
