The Gwynyth Defense Fleets

The Gwynyth fleets are defensive in nature, mounting advanced polymer armor, and use deception liberally. Their ships as a whole are two-thirds the size of other races ships of the same class due to the smaller size of the Pelorans. A one meter tall race does not require two meters of head room in the hallways.

Llew class Battleship

The heaviest warships in the Gwynyth fleet, the Llew class battleships act as fleet command ships. The first of this class, The Guardian Light, mounts a heavy photon cannon armament, while later ships of this class carry anti-matter cannons in place of the photon cannons. They mount two cannons on each boom, one firing forward and another firing aft. They also mount two massive grav cannons in the nose, designed to fire either avenger class missiles or very heavy rail slugs in a close range fight. She can also fire up to ten capital class missiles at a time, and thirty photon turrets guard her in each arc.

Llewelyn class Battlecruiser and Chaslan class Cruiser

Once the heaviest warships in the Gwynyth fleet, battlecruisers acted as fleet command ships. Mounting three photon cannons in the bow, three firing aft, five electromagnetic launch rails and twenty photon turrets facing forward, aft, starboard and port, as well as five forward firing ship-killer missile bays, they are very powerful warships.

The cruisers also carry three photon cannons fore and aft, but only mount four ship-killer missile bays and three electromagnetic launch rails and eighteen photon turrets into each of the four main firing arcs. They are designed to look exactly like their more powerful cousin right down to size in order to confuse the enemy.

Frylan class Light Cruiser and Daffyd class Destroyer

Designed to support their heavier brethren in combat, light cruisers mount two photon cannons fore and aft, three missile bays, and two electromagnetic launch rails and sixteen photon turrets each foreward, aft, port, and starboard.

Mounting two photon cannons and three missile bays to the front, along with two electromagnetic launch rails and sixteen photon turrets into each of the four arcs, they match light cruisers in firepower and appearance in most situations, but of course lack the heavy aft firepower and some armor protection.

Tristan class Frigate

One of the older ship designs in the Gwynyth fleet, predating the advent of photon cannons, the standard frigate mounts two missile bays and four foreward-firing electromagnetic launch rails, one rail to each of the other arcs, and fourteen photon turrets in each arc. This class of ship is not considered a true capital class warship by todays standards, but instead is used as a security force command ship. They are seen supporting the primary Gwynyth battlelines when needed though.

Gryslan class Missile Frigate

An Alkari War era ship designed by a joint Cronyl-Gwynyth design team the Gryslan class discards the electromagnetic rails on normal frigates and replaces them with more capital class missile bays, making her an excellent battleline support ship. A total of five missile tubes with standard loads make this a dangerous ship when firing from long range in stealth mode. The tubes are supported by fourteen photon turrets in all arcs to fend off fighters in case they are caught, though the turrets are of limited use against all but the smallest starships.

Vyron class Corvette

Mounting a single missile bay for long range bombardment, the corvette's main weapons array is the twelve photon turrets pointing foreward, aft, port, and starboard. Maintaining a halfway position between gunboat and frigate, they are often used to fight fighters or other small craft in support of frigates or their own fighters. The ship shown is the standard Gwynyth-Cronyl Family designed ship that first saw light during the Alkari War, though many of the Lesser Families aligned with two Great Families build their own designs.

Vorclyne class Fleet Carrier

Gwynyth Family acquired this design from the Cronyl during the Alkari War and used it to great effect when supporting the Bastet advance. Actually mounting two capital class missile launchers in her bow with five rounds each, and five more designed to fire the bomber-sized missiles for a nearly limitless number on board, along with twenty photon turrets in each arc, this ship is armed well enough to fight if need be but such an action would be foolish unless no choice is given. She carries ten squadrons of fighter craft.

Y'ornyl class Light Carrier

One of the oldest designs in the Cronyl fleet and recently acquired by the Grey Council that now rules Gwynyth Family, they mount no heavy weapons, but have ten photon turrets in each arc like corvettes. Their main offensive weapon is of course the four squadrons of small craft they carry.

New technology incorporated into many Confederation small craft classes allows for the use of modular equipment packs that allow them to have more abilities then the older versions did. Some craft can only support 1 mount while others support 2 mounts. A heavy mount will usually drop speed and agility by 1 but boost another stat by 2. A light mount will usually drop only agility by 1 and boost another stat by 1. Two light mounts will have the same detrimental effects as a single heavy mount. A craft that can carry two mounts must always maintain balance with the same equipment packs on each side of the craft, so bonuses and detrimental effects are doubled.

The following packs can be used to increase speed or agility. When used, the light engine pack will counteract the loss of speed when adding a second light pack and push the second point loss over to agility. The light manuevering pack does the opposite, pushing the first point loss of agility over to speed. As they countereffect each other, they are never used in tandem. Also, the engine and manuevering packs effect only their opposite stat for detrimental effects.

Raven class Fighter

Capable of reconfiguring for atmospheric flight, the Ravens carry two pulse photon lasers attached to a turret underneath the cockpit, two pulse lasers mounted on the sides of the turret for extra range of firepower, and two fighter-class photon cannons buried in the fuselage.

Boar class Bomber and Y'Slan class AWACS

A design long in use by Gwynyth Family, the AWACS have two underwing modular mounts to carry extensive sensor systems and a single fighter-class photon cannon beneath the cockpit.

Sensor: 6 Speed: 2 Range: 4 Agility: 1 Weaponry: 1

Built on the same platform as the AWACS, the bombers mount no onboard weapons but have three modular weapons pack mounts, two under each wing and one buried in the fuselage beneath the cockpit where the photon cannon was for heavy weapons support. Each of these mounts have been heavily reinforced to allow them to carry heavy weapons packs (HWP) with rail cannons, missiles and bombs, and sometimes even photon cannons, or lighter packs (LWP) with fighter-class missiles and photon lasers for increased mobility. The bomber, like the AWACS, is capable of atmospheric flight and can deliver weapons loads to targets in space or on a planetary surface. The Mark 18 removes the nose modular mount due to design problems and replaces it with two bomber-class photon cannons. The wing mounts have been reinforced to handle the new equipment packs coming off the production lines.

Phoenix class Fighter

The first of a new breed of fighters designed to fight on land and in space, these Land-AirMechs are similar to the Terran 'Mechs that inspired them and sport a name from Terran mythology. The Phoenix was a bird that burned to death and was reborn in its own ashes, not unlike how the 'Mech/fighters die and are reborn every time they transform. They are light fighters and carry minimal weaponry in their primary configurations, though they can avail themselves of special modular equipment packs similar to those used by other current fighter designs. Capable of reconfiguring to walk on the ground, hover in the air, and fly in both atmospheres and space, the versatility of the LAMs is a sight to behold and enemies rarely know what to expect when they first meet them. Having three modes to fight in often makes it difficult for the enemy to act and react. The standard design carries a single fighter-class photon cannon in its right hand and several small missile launchers in its chest, it has the equivalent of two modular equipment packs mounts and so can add very heavy firepower at the cost of speed and agility.

Sensor: 1 Speed: 5 Range: 2 Agility: 5 Weaponry: 2

Aurocs class Gunboat

The smallest jump-capable craft in the Gwynyth fleet, they actualy don't mount any onboard weaponry, but instead have two modular weapons mounts for heavy weapons. The loadout of the ship shown above has a weapons pack mounting two photon lasers, a fighter-class photon cannon, and fourteen fighter-class missiles on each mount. Other heavy weapons packs (HWP) include capital-class missiles, twin bomber-class photon cannons, and even one capital-class photon cannon, though that weapons pack does not have the onboard generating capacity to fire more then one shot. Lifting surfaces can also be attached to the mounts to allow the gunboats to fly in the atmosphere, but these airfoil wing packs (AWP) never mount missiles to limit torque on the connections. The standard wing pack carries two photon lasers, one fighter-class photon cannon, and ten bombs for anti-ground force use, though a secondary pack replaces the bombs and photon cannon with a bomber-class photon cannon. They are also used in survey formations, routinely to scout jump points ahead of the main fleet, so sensor packs (SP) attached to the hard points have also been developed. The Mark 24 variant of the Aurocs modifies to ship to handle the new standard equipment packs coming off the production lines. Two bomber-class photon cannons are added to fixed mounts below the nose and the and advanced anti-grav technology has finally been incorporated into the design to allow all ship varients to enter the atmosphere. They have a mount on each side of the ship.

Communications ships

Mounting ten photon turrets into each arc, these ships can defend themselves against fighters, but tend to avoid combat as much as possible. Their main mission is to keep a fleet in contact with other star systems with its hypercomm. Designed to look like other Gwynyth ships, usually frigates so they do not become targeted by enemy fire, no picture is given.

Transports

Transports - Mounting ten photon turrets in each arc like the comm ships, they also tend to avoid conflict when possible. Their main mission is to transport ground forces and sometimes colonization teams in between planets.
