Hello, my name is…
- Hello, my name is Betty. The end of the growing season has come, the beginning of a new season begun. Celebrate life in its splendor. Prepare for the cold to come. Build the bonfires high. Sing and dance and love. Remember those who have gone on before you. Winter has come.
- Hello, my name is Jack. A lot of us put our boots on when the Shang came. We grabbed our rifles and we went to battle. We came home to a heroes welcome. I kept my rifle. I kept my ship. I kept my boots. They aren’t the same boots of course. I’ve replaced them over the years. But I still wear ’em. I still stand up to do what needs doin’. I intend to die with my boots on. Unless I’m with a blonde, a brunette, and a redhead of course. That’s a no boot zone right there.
- Hello, my name is Charles. I was born Charles Edward Hurst. I expect you recognize the name. I have no doubt I would have lived down to it given the impulses of my youth. But the Shang came, and I volunteered. My father made certain that I was assigned to a second string reserve unit that would surely never see combat. Ah, the fickle hand of fate. That is how I became a Cowboy. That is how I met Dorothy. And that has made all the difference.
- Hello, my name is Betty. When we grow up, we absorb many deep and abiding truths from our parents. Their values and beliefs infuse us, dominate us for the rest of our lives. But sometimes something happens to change everything for us. We learn that everything we thought we knew was wrong. Some people lose faith in life and stop living when that happens. Most of us though, we live on. We find something else to believe in, and that faith we take to the end of our days.
- Hello, my name is Jack. I hear some people preach that we are all bad and that we’re here to suffer so that we might enjoy Heaven better. Well, I don’t believe in that suffering business. Oh, I want to go to Heaven when the time comes. It’s got a real good party going on. But I don’t want to go now. I’ve got a lot of things to do until the time comes. I’ve got a lot of things to see. I intend to slide in with a lot of stuff to talk about with all the friends I made along the way.
- Hello, my name is Charles. I am an American Cowboy. I stood up against the Shang. I fought in The War. I found a family I am proud to be part of. The Peloran named me Wolf. I bled for that name, I earned that name, and I have kept that name. I have done all the business of my adult life with that name. Remember it well. Should those with my old name seek to cash in on my fame, these are my words. The Cowboys are my family. I am Charles Edward Wolf, now and forever.
- The End of the Rainbow
- Hello, my name is Betty. Each one of us has a basic inner code. For some, we’re born that way; some of us choose that code. Some of us help people; some of us help only ourselves. Some of us care about other people, some of us don’t. We all have to get in touch with our inner character, learn who we are. Once we know, we can choose who we will be and make our stand. And once we make our stand, that is when we begin to discover our true potential.
- Hello, my name is Jack. Some people say that Death walks the battlefield to find his prey. I say Death walks in the guise of a randy redhead. And no, I do not mean a redhead named Randy. Sure, the Grim Reaper works on the battlefield, but Death has to find some way to give those old guys who survived the battlefields heart attacks in their beds after all. Least that’s what I figure from my experience. I intend to be the old guy in bed, surrounded by family and friends. Redheads optional.
- Hello, my name is Charles. As a child, I dressed up and went to a good little boarding school. As a teenager, I had my youthful indiscretions, and my family lawyers made them go away. I was a slave to a life of indulgence. Then the Shang came. I became a free man when I fought them, a wolf hunting the enemies of my pack. After The War, my family didn’t recognize the big bad wolf. They wanted the good little sheep I’d been. So I walked. I am a wolf. I am a free man. I am no one’s prey.
- Hello, my name is Betty. We should always prepare and be ready for bad things to happen, natural or manmade disasters or worse. A storm, a power failure, an accident; they can all push us into survival mode. But don’t mistake being prepared with being worried. Worrying about tomorrow’s possible troubles doesn’t take them away. It just takes away the peace and joy you could have today. And being prepared means I don’t have to worry about it.
- Hello, my name is Jack. When I was young, I lived in a real easy world. I could do anything I wanted really. I wanted to be famous. I wanted people to say my name with the same awe they have when they say the names of George Washington, Jessie James, or Hank Williams. I wanted to make a name for myself. I loved to play and sing for the pretty girls, but I wasn’t good enough to make it big. I wasn’t famous, but it turns out I didn’t need to be famous to have fun. Then the Shang came.
- Hello, my name is Charles. My parents taught me to follow the law, and to keep a good team of lawyers on call in case you broke it. They were not very concerned with right and wrong. I am not proud of the child I was. You see, right and wrong are not synonymous with legal and illegal. Not everything that is legal is right, and not everything that is illegal is wrong. I learned the truth of that, and the truth has set me free to be a person I am proud to be.
- Cowboy Diplomacy
- Hello, my name is Betty. There is good and evil in the universe. Freedom and slavery. It is up to every generation to win their freedom or fall into slavery. My generation picked a side and we fought for our freedom. In generations to come, those who read this will be forced to pick a side as well. Will you fight for freedom? Or surrender to slavery? That will be your choice. The problem is that is evil speaks with soft words that deceive many. Study, learn, and make your choice well.
- Hello, my name is Jack. What do I want? Honestly, I’m pretty easy to please. A party with a bunch of pretty girls on a lakeshore will just about cover it. A warm bed, with a blonde, a brunette, and a redhead to fill it with after the party would be nice too. And I’d love some kind words. That’s not too much to ask for is it? Of course, I also like seeing new things and going places I’ve never been before, so I go do that too. It’s real interesting to see what’s out there.
- Hello, my name is Charles. Long ago, the Kings made laws to tell us what we couldn’t do. We declared our Independence and we wrote new laws to serve and to protect us from those who would hurt us. The moment the law gets in the way of what is right, the moment that it begins to think it is more important than the people it protects, the law has to make way for what is right. And if it’s not willing to, I am willing to step up and make it. I have done it before. I will do it again.
- Hello, my name is Betty. Some stand up and do things, sometimes great, sometimes terrible, and sometimes both. Some sit back in their chairs and complain about everything others do. Some shine for the universe to see. Some throw rocks at things that shine. We are a shining city on a hill, where everyone can see us, a beacon of freedom welcoming everyone looking for a new life. And we walk into the darkness, our lanterns filled with that light.
- Hello, my name is Jack. People always tell me that things can’t be done. They always say it’s impossible. They always say that we just shouldn’t try because nothing we do will change things. I love proving them wrong. I love daring them to show me a lost cause. I’ve seen a lot of them in my life. Back during The War I always knew it was a lost cause because they sent us. In a lot of ways, were all a lost cause back then, but we never got lost. I’m real proud of that.
- Hello, my name is Charles. Do not let people tell untruths without correcting them. Do not sit back and watch as someone leads others with a lie. Do not suffer a charlatan to remain in your presence without a confrontation. For a lie told often enough becomes the truth unless those of us who know better correct it at every opportunity. What is the truth? We won. We didn’t just survive, we drove the Shang screaming before us and we won.
- Hello, my name is Jack. I was one of the first Cowboys. We were ten then. We were hundreds by the end of The War. We were the tip of the spear that kicked the Shang’s asses across the universe. We were on recruitment posters, telling the kids to grow up quick so they could be one of us. Kids played Cowboys and Aliens in their backyards with families and friends across America. Coming home to that was a real eye opener, especially when I think about how it all began. Cowboys and Aliens
- Hello, my name is Betty. My people knew it was going to be a hard war when we chose to become involved. The War turned out to be a lot harder and a lot longer than we expected. The Shang were ruthless, and they refused to admit they were wrong. I think it has to be something in their genetics that makes them incapable of admitting that. A lot of people died. It wasn’t as bad as The Great War, but it was bad enough that I hope they don’t come back.
- Hello, my name is Jack. You know the difference between Men and Boys? Boys make excuses for their failures. Men plan to succeed. Boys go around making babies. Men raise children. Boys go out and party. Men go out and work. I used to be a real good Boy, or a real bad one according to some. I used to party for a living. Now I work for a living, and party for fun. There is a real big difference between the two.
- Hello, my name is Charles. Today we celebrate Thanksgiving. It is an American holiday where we give thanks to God for guiding our earliest colonists to the New World. The journey took months, through stormy waters, and many ships foundered over the years. But we kept coming, looking for a New World where we could be free from the oppression of the One True Religion of the States we left behind. And so we thank God for bringing us here were we could build that New World.
- Hello, my name is Betty. Some people think the destination is the reason for the journey. They think there is no reason to go anyplace except for the place you plan on stopping at. I don’t like to stop. For me it is the journey itself that is the reason to go any place. I love just seeing things I’ve never seen before, and I love going places not many have gone before. The backroads, the roads less traveled, those are the best way to travel, and the best places to never stop.
- Hello, my name is Jack. I have had the occasion to often deal with guns since the Shang came. Sometimes I’ve been the one holding the gun, and sometimes I haven’t. I do have a piece of advice though. If you say “listen to the man with the gun” hold on tight to that gun or the other guy might just accept your conditions and take the gun. I have done that in my time, and the shock on their faces as I do it is worth its weight in gold.
- Hello, my name is Charles. I have heard it said that fighter pilots make movies, while bomber pilots make history. In my time, I have been both, and I have to say that the movies really have emphasized the fighter pilot of my role. I guess fighter on fighter action is just a lot more exciting than blowing up warships or long recon missions on the edges of a fleet formation. Of course, I actually like the movies. They were a lot of fun to watch, even if they were almost all fiction.
- Hello, my name is Jack. When the Chinese struck, they killed three Peloran destroyers, a starbase, and every Peloran on them. It took us three weeks and five light years to track that fleet down. It’s kinda funny. I made my first trip to the Western Alliance colony in Alpha Centauri at the head of a Peloran Battle Squadron pursuing a Chinese war fleet that outnumbered us more than thirty to one. That is one of the more interesting ways I have first arrived in a new star system. Gunfight at Alpha Centauri
- Hello, my name is Betty. We all have struggles we go through, we all have times when we fall down, when we fail. Our times of failure do not define us though. We say who we are every time we stand up, brush the bad things off ourselves, and move on. That is the essence of life. For me, I plan to move on and do amazing things and have an amazing life that I can look back on and say that I’m glad I was born. I say I’m amazing. I hope you do too.
- Hello, my name is Jack. I do some social networking. Betty does all of them. We do it mostly for business. It’s real easy to track all of you people who put your lives and pictures on them. The Cowboys have our own network so I do that too. I do have one pet peeve about the networks though. People telling me that I have to repost their stuff or they’ll think I don’t agree. I don’t like to spam, so I don’t repost. Do not take my silence as a measurement of my thoughts.
