Overview:
The Chaparral is a tracked missile tank introduced in 2611 to serve among mobile units where self-propelled Long Toms and Snipers could not travel. After the loss of Terra, Comstar looked for another source of swift, short-ranged artillery and their eyes eventually fell on Pryde Rock. In the process of re-designing other Star League vehicles, the engineers at Pryde Rock gladly accepted the challenge.

Capabilities:
The Chaparral PR1's main armament is the Arrow IV surface-to-surface missile system, which consists of two launchers mounted in pods that are elevated just before firing. Like the original, they lower to their normal positions after firing, giving the Chaparral a low profile. We do not believe we need to tell you how well the Arrow IV system works.

Like the original, when an enemy gets too close, the Chaparral PR1 has a small array of defensive weapons to keep the foe at bay. This weaponry consists of two Farstar-C ER medium lasers, replacing the older Sapphires, mounted on the sides of the hull and a rear-firing Cruncher-C Streak SRM-6 missile launcher, replacing the old Shrike missile system.

Another change was replacing the older standard armor with newer Rock Hard Mk 2 Ferro-Fibrous armor. Maintaining the same weight, it does minutely increase her armor protection. The final change was replacing the comm. and tracking systems with the now well-tested and superior Talk & Trac 10. This system gives the crew superior battlefield awareness but does little to make the targeting better for any of the weapons because of the design of the vehicle and the weapon mounts. [+1 bonus to initiative when leading a unit only.]

The vehicle still carries a four-man crew, consisting of a driver, gunner, radio operator, and tank commander which are housed in the large armored cab just forward of the missile launcher. The fusion engine precludes fuel problems, giving the missile tank the capacity to operate for extended periods of combat.

Deployment
As with most PRI production, this vehicle is only seen in use by Comstar and the Kungsarme. Though we believe the prototype is still operating on PRI as part of the defenses of Pryde Rock.
