Overview:

On many worlds without well-established rail or air networks, ground transportation of goods is the only practical option. While city- and road-bound vehicles often favor compactness, those designed for long-haul journeys, often thousands of kilometers, find that maximizing the load carried by a single vehicle is the easiest option. The Isesaki Roku Royal, built by Buda Imperial Vehicles of Luthien, is the most common in a long series of Isesaki Roku land trains. First built shortly before the formation of the Star League, the Royal land train ruled the transporation industry of the Draconis Combine for a hundred years before the Stellar land train came out. Powered by a fusion engine, the Stellar land train soon took over the Royal's place, but the fall of the Star League made the Stellar's fusion engines a valuable resource. All of them were dismantled for their engines and the Roku Royal has ruled Draconis space ever since.

Capabilities:

Heavily armored by land train standards, the Isesaki Roku Royal is designed to be able to take heavy punishment from the elements, local creatures, and even bandits. The standard Royal package comes with a single LRM turret in the cab and a flamer in the cab and over each trailer. The LRM is generally enough to stop raiders far short of the land train, while the flamers can quickly roast any foe, human or animal, that gets close enough to be a real danger. The Royal is shorter and wider than most land trains, its sloped armor dropping nearly all the way to the ground which makes it hard for hostiles to climb on. A final skirt of metal plates falls the rest of the way to the ground, resting on individual tires, keeping ground invaders from getting under the machine without being crushed first. The constantly undulating skirt can be disconcerting to observers, but those operators who maintain the system swear by its ability to keep critters out of the vehicle. Many of course do not keep the skirts in operation, and it is common to see Royals rolling into town missing some or all of their skirts.

Deployment

The Isesaki Roku Royal is mainly seen in the Draconis Rifts, and in systems that have spent a number of years under Draconis control. Outside those systems, it is a rare sight as Buda Imperial Vehicles has most often avoided selling them to foreign concerns.
