Overview:

The Brutus has never achieved the fame of other, more renowned tank designs, but its power and reliability make it a favorite of the Tikonov Free Republic and their customers, mainly mercenaries and friendly governments. Despite its highly successful initial test runs in 2998, the Capellan High Command relegated the Brutus to second-line forces, where it remained for decades. The Brutus's fortunes changed, however, when Hanse Davion's armies rolled over the Capellan forces during the Fourth Succession War. The AFFC forces captured large numbers of Brutus tanks and were so impressed with the combat performance of the design that the new AFFC High Command supplied Brutuses to its front-line Regimental Combat Teams (RCTs). The Brutus compared well with other famous tank designs such as the Von Luckner and the Manticore, and the versatile Brutus soon became a common sight among combat, garrison and militia forces. The original Brutus, still fully operational after a full century of operation in some cases, can still often be seen in this role.
The creation of the Chaos March and the formation of the Tikonov Free Republic once again changed the fortunes of this design. When the Jihad began, Kressly Warworks supported Epsilon Eridani in their war against Word-backed forces and came out with an upgrade using technology provided by the Battle Magic mercenary unit. This new, cheap, version of the Brutus fought well during the Jihad, proving dangerous and hard to kill.

Capabilities:

The Brutus possesses an impressive combination of long- and short-range weapons. In the chaos of the beginning years of the Jihad, Kressly proved incapable of replicating or importing the main weapons of the Brutus, so they replaced them with weapons they could build on site. The two turret-mounted BlazeFire Systems heavy lasers and turret-mounted Gabriel's Fire Mult-Missile racks result in a solid long-range punch that has disabled or outright killed many enemies. For short-range engagements, the Brutus can unload volleys of twenty-seven missiles from the racks, capable of shredding even the most powerful enemies.
The Brutus has respectable armor protection and speed for its weight class. Though it has less armor than comparable models such as the Manticore, the Brutus's superior firepower amply compensates for this weakness.

Deployment

Brutus tanks are deployed throughout the the Tikonov Free Republic, with the exception of the Sirian worlds, and many mercenaries swear by the good but basic design. Other nations friendly with Tikonov also purchase the design, helping Kressly to maintain an impressive production rate.
