Overview:

One of the three vehicle types commissioned by Wolf's Dragoons from Blackwell in 3007, Blackwell's production of the Badger was once a mystery. When originally contracted by the Dragoons, Blackwell was not even able to keep up with replacement actuator orders. Blackwell had no designs or in-house design staff capable of designing and testing a combat vehicle. But less than a year later, wotj Dragoon aid, Blackwell was turning out Dragoon combat vehicles at the rate of five per month and still had enough excess capacity to fill orders for Peregrine VTOLS.
The Badger was designed to be a basic troop transport for the Dragoons, with a weapons capability to support them. The 3050s saw the Dragoons cracking their morgues full of BattleArmor open and the Badger was relegated to militia and Home Guard use. In 3065, Blackwell began producing a new version of the Badger using Clan technology and it once again entered use by the main Dragoon regiments.

Capabilities:

The Badger is a tracked vehicle used in terrain that precludes the use of hovercraft. The Badger is deployed in an offensive capacity only rarely, even though it carries better weapons and armor than the older version. Typically, the Dragoons use Badgers as BattleArmor and infantry transports. The vehicle's weapons provide ample fire support for dismounted infantry troops in such situations.
The spacious interior of the Badger also makes the vehicle well suited to transport BattleArmor and infantry because the interior greatly reduces fatigue for the embarked infantry. Rather than riding in a cramped, ill-ventilated space, wedged between boxes of ammo and rations, infantry troops in a Badger may recline in comfortable seats and store gear in specially designed interior stowage areas. Though some may scoff at such creature comforts, the difference between rested troops and those fatigued by an uncomfortable cross-country journey often spells the difference between defeat and victory.
When outfitted for BattleArmor use, the Badger has privacy cubicles for the unit members, a common briefing/exercise room, and a morgue for the BattleArmor itself. Robotic arms make it simple for most troopers to get in and power up their BattleArmor without support. Interestingly, the Badger's safe operating tolerance can be exceeded if a full seven-man BattleArmor squad is used. None have been lost to this slight overloading as the Badger's redline is far beyond the level that a mere BattleArmor force can generate, but many Badgers used by other mercenaries have their private quarters removed to ease stress on the frame. For the Dragoon five-man point the new Badger has room to spare.

Deployment

The Dragoons and many members of the Allied Mercenary Command use the Badger IIC for their armored and unarmored infantry, making them a common sight in the Human Sphere. Fairly cheap and effective, most mercenary commands love them.
