Overview:

         Following the success of a string of new vehicle designs, especially their Challenger X, General Motors looked for a way to create a follow-on, a product that would continue to profit on the sudden interest in conventional military vehicles within the AFFC. With the incredible success of Star Corps’ Manteuffel Attack Tank, development of an OmniVehicle was the obvious answer.

Capabilities:

         From the moment of its conception, the Ajax was destined to be the ultimate combat vehicle. Though not fast, it mounts an incredible amount of armor and, thanks to its XL fusion engine, can devote more than 40 tons of mass to weapons and equipment. The original design also used C3, but when GM modified it to create the Ajax 2 in 3069 that capability was lost.
         The primary configuration mates a Gauss rifle with a class-10 Ultra autocannon, backed up by a pair of medium pulse lasers and an SRM 4 launcher. Less common, but far more popular with its crews, is the Alpha configuration, which mounts triple class-10 Ultra autocannons and enough ammunition to kill almost anything it shoots at. This is most often used in air defense positions.
         The Ajax B mounts three LRM 15 launchers, each with an integrated Artemis IV FCS, and an ER PPC. This configuration is often used by company commanders, as well as for long range missile bombardments from behind cover. The particle cannon keeps enemies that seek to close the range honest.

Deployment

         The Ajax 2 is primarily used only by the Syrtis Federation, and entire companies of the vehicle spearheaded the New Syrtis assault into St. Ives territory. They also fought throughout the bitter withdrawals against the coalition that came to St. Ives' aid, and all of those nations learned to respect the design. Some of the vehicles captured in that war still serve those nations, those they are rare outside Federation borders.
