One of the many projects initiated by Precentor Martial Anastasius Focht during the Reformation, only two Suffren class cruisers were ever built. The cost of maintaining naval vessels and the difficulty of hiding their construction led ComStar to freeze its capital-ship construction in 2949. As the result, the most modern ship in the fleet, the Dante Class Montpellier, was over a century old at the time. The Suffren was part of the effort to update the fleet, though the plans to build more of them were abandoned in the chaos of the Jihad.
         Virtual-reality technology similar to that used to coordinate the battle of Tukayyid facilitated a thorough testing of the design. This simulation, often involving up to 200 people acting out their assigned duties on the simulated WarShip, revealed a number of design flaws. As a result of this computer simulation, the designers skipped the expensive prototype stage usually associated with ship construction and went straight to production. Though this worked well, the loss of Terra forced ComStar to move their production facilities, something they were only capable of doing thanks to the Faslane YardShips, but even then they didn't have the resources to build more of them. One of the completed Suffrens, the Manchester, died in the Jihad at the hands of a Word Dante and ComStar never restarted the production of that design, preferring to update the Dante design and put them into production again.
         The Anastasius Focht, only surviving ship of the class and veteran of the titanic battles for the Terran system, mounts her original arsenal of salvaged naval autocannons, lasers, and particle cannons, as well as an array of missile launchers around the hull and advanced C3 systems that allow it to coordinate fire with other ships. Her conventional anti-aerospace weapons have been refitted to modern technology since the Jihad, making them far more capable, but her heat sink system has not been rebuilt. This makes her unable to effectively fire all of her weapons, but she can usually deal with smaller opponents. The Anastasius Focht carries eight small craft, a mixture of shuttles and orbital buses, and a full marine battalion that enables her to repel any boarding attempts and seize control of any vessel easily. Because of this, she is most often used as a customs and inspection base and she has become the bane of smugglers all over the Human Sphere.
