Overview:
The Trinity War cost the Taurians and the rest of the Trinity Alliance heavily, and as it raged their fleets paid an atrocious cost to hold the Capellans off. Even so, volunteers continued to step forward to crew the Magnums, little more than coffins trying to kill something before going down. The Remington was designed to give the Magnums a chance of survival.
The first Remington was finished in the wanning days of the Trinity War, and it saw action over Mendham where over a dozen Magnum crews credit it with their lives. Designed to carry two massive naval rail cannons in her nose, the ship is meant to clear a path for the Magnums through defending DropShips or WarShips with her main armament, then send in her two DropShips and the fighters they normally carry to support the Magnums in their attack run.
This battlefield strategy has remained to the present day where single Remingtons are usually escorted by an entire wing of Magnums. Unfortunately, the Remington does not have enough room in her cargo holds to support so many ships over the length of a deployment and one or more Samantha-class JumpShips are often deployed with a Remington flotilla to keep them fully stocked with fuel, ammunition, spare parts, and food. They also often carry more fighters that are used to support the run of Magnums against a target too powerful for the Remington to take down alone.
Like all Taurian ships, the Remington features large and comfortable crew quarters, grav decks large enough to enjoy a full gee of gravity (though Magnums are too small for that and their crews often use the Remington's decks for a few hours at a time), and what many nations consider extravagent recreation facilities. They also have room for a large enough crew to make maintaining the ship an easy task and not much more than a 40 hour work-week, giving them plenty of free time to enjoy the room and recreation while on cruises.
Most Remingtons are deployed along the Capellan and Federation border, supported by Magnums and other ships of various sizes, including Wagon Wheels. They are commonly used to patrol for incursions of the border, but many are kept at Panpour and in the Pleiades Cluster as a mobile reserve and final defensive force in the event that raiders or invaders attempt to breach the borders and more resources than a single Remington battlegroup is needed to repel them.
