Overview:
Ordered by Emperor Gladding, the first Liburnia-class frigate saw action in the second invasion of Son Hoa. The forces it brought into battle helped turn the tide and allowed the Legions to make planetfall. Since then, every Legion has been allocated at least three Liburnias to transport the Legion into battle. Most Legions have more than three Liburnias, sometimes used to transport their Auxilia Legions but usually the extra wings of fighters it takes to pull together an entire squadron. A Marian squadron of fighters has caused many enemies to surrender without firing a shot.
Lacking many heavy weapons of their own and limited to very light armor, Liburnias tend to avoid combat if they can. Multiple screen launchers keep them shrouded from enemy view, while banks of pulse lasers protect them from any fighters that breach the screens. Heavy broadside weapons arcs are designed to, hopefully, destroy any enemy that breaks through their screen of AeroSpace Fighters and DropShips.
As Liburnias are designed to support an invasion, and as the Centurions and Incidios they normally carry have nearly no space dedicated to carrying spare parts and food, every Liburnia has a cavernous hold for such items. Nearly ten percent of the ship's mass can be dedicated to cargo in fact, allowing a squadron of Liburnias to support an invasion without being resupplied for months. The Liburnia also has four large grav decks, allowing the crews of all attached ships easy access to full gravity areas, even when the ship is not manuevering. This capability to enforce extended sieges/invasions while maintaining the health of the crews of all attached ships has allowed the Hegemony to snap up multiple small Outer Sphere worlds. Reports suggest that the Circinians have used the large cargo decks to haul off massive amounts of "acquired" merchandise from worlds they have "visited" as well. Many wonder how long it will be before the Hegemony begins looking at more developed worlds to "acquire" with these ships. Many wonder how well they will fair against "proper" WarShips should this happen, and the betting pools have begun to grow rapidly in recent years.
