Overview:

         The Jihad shattered most of the Federation's military construction facilities, but by fluke or design Universal Air of Delavan survived the Jihad without taking fire. It continued to build Invaders and Starlords, selling them to anyone with the money to purchase them during those trying times, and remained alive when the Word of Blake finally fell. At first the company did little to support the Davion rebuilding program, lacking the expertise to do more than build JumpShips. Still, just the JumpShips helped. But in 3082, the Federation approached them with a contract to build a new WarShip to escort their fleets. The Federation arranged for several Federated-Boeing engineers to help Universal Air and they accepted the contract.
         At first, Universal Air attempted to build a completely new ship, but that proved impossible with their assets. Then they pursued modifying one of their JumpShips, but that also proved beyond their capabilities. In the end, Federated-Boeing licensed them the plans to their Conquistador DropShip and Universal Air finally found something they could use. Within months, they'd filled the DropShip's cargo bays with a K-F drive and it was time to test the design. It took them another year to work the bugs out, but in 3085 the first Arthur-class frigate made a jump and survived. Three before it had not been so lucky.
         Now produced in mass quantities, the Arthur is indistinguishable from the Conquistador it was designed to emulate, unless it is seen jumping into a system alone. It has proven a capable escort ship, used in large numbers on the fringes of most major naval fleets. It is also heavily used by the FSMC to carry Conquistadors into a system, and the two ships most often remain linked until combat is engaged to keep enemies from learning which is which. Its main weakness is the total lack of any jump sail, requiring the ship to use its meager fuel reserves to power its jump drive unless it secures access to a recharge station or DropPort. Luckily, the ship can use either.
