Overview:

One of Anastasius Focht's last actions before he retired as Precentor Martial of ComStar was to authorize the development of an OmniFighter for use by the Com Guard troops. The original intention was for the design to be used by ComStar and the SLDF. In 3064, however, budgetary constraints imposed by the FedCom Civil War prompted the SLDF to withdraw from the program. This left ComStar shouldering the entire cost of the project until Elected Prince Regent Måndsdotter volunteered to help fund it. The resulting Huscarl saw service in both the Rasalhague and ComStar armed forces throughout the rest of the Civil War and the Jihad that followed.
During the Jihad in particular, both ComStar and Rasalhague developed a large number of alternate OmniPod loadouts, and by the time the war ended it had become a veritable alphabet soup of configurations. Between that and the heavy casualties the design took, ComStar and Rasalhague chose to work together to create a full upgrade of the Huscarl in 3079. Built from the ground up to incorporate the Clan technologies used by both armed forces, this made the new Huscarl far more deadly than the original, giving both realms a powerful weapon that has done well for them in the last two decades.

Capabilities:

The Huscarl boasts a compact power plant that occupies only one-fifteenth of the aircraft’s mass, resulting in a ponderous but well armed and armored design. Some pilots have likened the aircraft to a flying whale, but others love its massive weapon arrays, especially when coordinating fire with other Huscarls via the Blake's Vision improved c3 system. The heavy weapons loads can be very effective when facing DropShips and WarShips, a fact that ship commanders throughout the Human Sphere have learned to respect. In addition to its OmniPods, the Huscarl has more than a dozen under-wing pylons for external ordnance. A full bomb load, however, renders the Huscarl largely unflyable.
The primary configuration carries an Artemis-guided LRM system in the nose, backed up by a large laser and a cluster-capable autocannon in each wing. An alpha strike can cause minor heat buildup, but this configuration is a good all-around fighter that can deal damage to other fighters very well.
Configuration A is also a good set of anti-fighter OmniPods. Nose-mounted Streak SRMs, Ultra autocannons, and a small laser can perform well in a strike attack, scattering damage all over an enemy. The Artemis-guided twenty-rack missile system under each wing can reinforce these weapons, finishing off an already-damaged enemy.
Configuration B and C are best at smashing DropShips and WarShips, a role for which they have been called to perform many times in the last two decades. The B is fronted by an impressive RAC and fourty tubes of LRMs. Supporting Streak SRMs and lasers fill out the weapons array, punching through weakened armor and smashing internal systems.
Configuration D does away the missiles, relying on pure autocannon fury to rip its enemies apart. An assault-class ultra autocannon under each wing boasts devastating power that even WarShips have learned to respect. The complementing lasers rate barely a mention in most books compared to those giant cannons.

Deployment

The Huscarl is the primary fighter of the modern ComStar naval forces. They fly off every ComStar WarShip, support every Division, protect every White Mantle, and are stationed at every HPG they run throughout the Human Sphere. That makes them by far one of the most common fighters seen anywhere. Rasalhague also makes heavy use of the design, especially in the freeborn units that most often trace their heritage back to the Republic.
