The first attempt to build a ProtoMech, the Harpy proved a disappointment. Barely larger than a standard BattleArmor suit, the Harpy shares many characteristics with its smaller cousin. In standard battlefield exercises, the Harpy generally fared poorly compared to armored Elementals, but years of modifications slowly made the design an effective anti-infantry unit.

A machine gun proves a threat to unarmored infantry, its armor gives it sufficient protection against their small arms fire, and its larger size compared to BattleArmor offers a significant psychological advantage. The current speed of the Harpy also makes it fast enough to outrun even the fastest BattleArmor and many BattleMechs.

Currently deployed by the Steel Vipers, Hell's Horses, and Jade Falcons, the Harpy is used primarily in garrison duties where it deals with civilians or unarmored infantry as a Harpy that attempts to fight a BattleMech rarely ends up on top.
