Overview:
When the Terran Hegemony first created the IndustrialMech, they envisioned many tasks that the 'Mechs could do that would improve the efficiency of their operations. One thing they probably did not foresee was the rise of the Hunter and HerderMechs designed for agricultral concerns working with animals. Despite this oversight, it took little time for the richer ranching conglomerates to see the promise of the IndustrialMechs.
Most often used by ranchers and farmers in rough terrain, such as mountainous areas or in river deltas, Hunter and HerderMechs can be seen wading through water or trudging up inclines that no vehicle could manage. The main weapons grid of a HunterMech, and the multi-spectrum spotlights that accompany each weapon, make them effective hunting blinds, especially on planets with particularly nasty local animals. The cargo bays of HerderMechs allow them to shelter animals from the weather while moving them between fields or to market. Both designs have proven their usefulness to farmers and ranchers, or to simple hunters, and continue to be used to this day, if in lesser numbers than during the heyday of the Star League.
