Overview:

         The basic hydrofoil seen on any world with water is an ICE-powered, one or two-man vehicle that is generally shaped like a dart to keep friction with the water down and speed up. Most hydrofoils can pass 100 kph without difficulty, and many are faster. Some, with simple environmental sealing and extra fuel, can travel underwater at a greatly-reduced speed. Most hydrofoils, unless specifically designed for the civilian market alone, have some light armor, and many militias make use of those models after adding on enough armor to give them at least some imaginary protection. The real "armor" of a combat hydrofoil is the only true defense of any unit this light, speed and the art of not being where the enemy fire goes. Military concerns often add a machine gun with a few salvos worth of bullets, but they have also been known to carry infantry squads for coastal resource raids.
