Overview:

         First deployed during the Terran World Wars of the 20th century, weapons carriers became popular as they were cheap to build, carried heavy anti-tank or anti-personnel weapons, and often could be converted from existing civilian vehicles. After the World Wars, true tanks took over in the leading nations of the world, but they cheaper weapons carriers remained in action in lesser countries. They entered mass production again during the Second Soviet Civil War, rushed into action to get as many weapons on the field as possible.
         The lighter versions usually carried rockets while the heavier versions carried multiple heavy machine guns designed to kill tanks, and those basic weapons carriers have been in action ever since. During the Age of War, when modern missile and laser systems became common, the weapons carriers were retrofitted with them to fight tanks and BattleMechs alike. The first carriers to use MMLs appeared on Outreach at the beginning of the Word of Blake Jihad, where they shocked those unprepared for them. Many carriers use tracks to move, while others are often mounted on wheeled or hover chassis.
         Not a true tank, or even having the armor to be considered a tank destroyer, the basic weapons carriers have still proven their basic use in combat and most militias and poor militaries use them to flesh out their tank, and sometimes even BattleMech corps.
