Overview:

When the Terran Hegemony introduced BattleMechs, they introduced a revolution in warfare unlike any seen since man first climbed into the clouds to drop bombs on fellow man. What made the BattleMech so revolutionary though was not simply its bipedal structure, its ability to move like a man, be controlled with thought, and its reaction speed that no vehicle could match. The BattleMech was simply one innovation among many. The Hegemony armed it with the newest and most powerful particle cannons that had no match at the time, they covered it in armor the like had never been seen, powered it with engines beyond imagination. They filled the BattleMech with the newest and most advanced technologies that the richest and most advanced nation in the known galaxy had invented. The result of all of these innovations combined into one package was suitably revolutionary.
Overnight, basic armored combat vehicles became little more than targets, waiting to be killed by the new gods of war. The BattleMech technology proliferated throughout the Human Sphere, and vehicles fell to wayside as one nation after another learned how to build their own BattleMechs. And of course, they learned how to build the armors and the weapons and the engines that made them the gods of war.
In time, they began looking to use these technologies on vehicles, but at first the results proved insufficient to threaten BattleMechs. In the end though, after an age of war, vehicles that could match the destructive power of BattleMechs began to arrive. The Falcon HoverTank was one such design. Faster than BattleMechs, the Falcon carries a 'Mech-grade laser and missile racks, making it a true threat to them.
The Falcon proliferated like the BattleMech, scattering throughout the nations of space, and soon became one of the most common HoverTanks of its age. The advent of the Star League and the new revolution of its technologies resulted in new HoverTanks that replaced the Falcon in main combat units, and the Falcons were either dismantled or sold to militia units.
Interestingly, they also played a large role in the Star League Civil War. When General Kerensky invaded and took over the industrial base of the Rim Worlds Republic, he used that industrial complex to refit the Star League Army before it attacked Amaris. The Falcon HoverTank was far more used and supported in the Periphery than in the Inner Sphere, and so manufacturing plants that could build them were far more common in the Rim Worlds Republic. As such, the Falcon HoverTank fought in massive numbers under the Star League standard when they assault the Terran Hegemony, where they met Amaris troops using other Falcons mobilized from the militia reserves. After the war ended, the depleted Star League Army continued to use the Falcon HoverTank, and took a truly amazing number of the tank with them when Kerensky started his Exodus.
Ironically, many of those Falcons returned with the Clans when they invaded the Inner Sphere, where they once again met others of their kind in battle that had remained behind in militia hands. During the Jihad, both the Word of Blake and the armies of the Star League used the Falcons at every opportunity, where once again the sound of their engines filled Terra with destruction. They have continued to serve throughout the brush fire wars that followed that conflict to this day, still most often in militia units, but as one of the most reliable HoverTanks ever built, when push comes to shove, the main armies of the Human Sphere will use them at need.
