         Defiance Industries has long been one of the primary driving forces behind advancements in military technology, and not only within the old Lyran Commonwealth. The corporation's plants on Hesperus II is the most famous construction complex in the Human Sphere, but its facilities on Furillo, though unable to produce the sheer volumes of equipment that the Hesperus plants do, are no less capable. Furillo's general manager, Duke Thelonius Gracchi, felt nonetheless that even within Defiance his divisions were considered second-rate. In an effort to boost Defiance-Furillo's image and increase morale among his thousands of employees, he commissioned the Uziel and personally sold the new 'Mech to units in the new LAAF and the AFFC, recently taken over by Katherine Steiner-Davion.
         The Uziel had many staring roles during the FedCom Civil War, fighting on Hesperus, Kentares, New Avalon, Tharkad, and hundreds of other worlds, under the flags of nearly as many units. During the Jihad, they went to war with the Clans, protecting the Tamar Pact from a new Invasion, and other scattered Uziels fought the Word. After the Jihad ended though, and the Human Sphere returned to a semblance of normalcy, Defiance began looking to expand its production capabilities. With their major factories in the Federation of Skye, Defiance of Furillo chose to build a new complex on the friendly world of Northwind, home to the Northwind Highlanders. By 3082, they were manufacturing new Uziels there as well, and the design's future in the tales of war was secure.


         The Uziel is not a groundbreaking BattleMech design and never has been, especially when compared to some of the designs that Defiance-Hesperus has come out with. It does, however, incorporate an array of heavy weapons, basic armor, and impressive mobility into an effective combat package.
         The original production Uziel sported a range of weapons systems, from autocannons to pulse lasers, that allowed it to hit an enemy at any range. While this version was able to harass the enemy during the brush fires of the FedCom Civil war, it failed spectacularily when the crush of the Word of Blake Jihad and the renewed Clan Invasions hit the Human Sphere. Uziel technicians all over the Human Sphere began abandoning that weapons package for the original weapons array that first gained fame during the brutal war on Kentares.
         Paired Parti-Kill Heavy Cannons give the design an impressive punch at short to long ranges, and the BattleMech is fast enough to catch almost anybody with longer-ranged weapons. A Harvester 20K missile drum and twin Kicker machine guns make it deadly to vehicles and infantry alike at short ranges, while a Cyclops Active Probe makes it capable of sniffing out even foes that are hiding from it. Finally, Rawlings 50 jump jets make it easily capable of travelling through rough terrain, or of jumping behind a larger enemy before landing the killing blow on its weakened rear armor.


         With its heavy firepower, speed, and jump capability, the Uziel is a favorite of both the Federation of Skye military and the mercenaries Defiance-Northwind sells to. Used by most mercenary units that can afford its expensive extra-light engine, the Uziel has become a common sight throughout the Human Sphere in the last four decades.
