FASA's otherwise excellent publication, "Maximum Tech"
has the usual quota of errors. For the offical errata
concerning rules and equipment, consult FASA's web site
at http://www.FASA.com

Maximum Tech does have a number of additional errors,
however. Some users of BattleMech Designer may notice
that costs and battle values of certain official FASA
BattleMech designs do not match those listed in the back
of Maximum Tech. By repeatedly computing the cost and
BVs of these designs by computer, calculator, and hand,
it is apparent that the errors are on FASA's part. To
the best of my knowledge, the values given by BattleMech
Designer are correct.

I have determined the most likely reason(s) for the
errors listed in Maximum Tech and have described them
below. Most of these errors appear in 'Mechs with the
new Inner Sphere Level 2 equipment, or in Clan 'Mechs
that utilize targeting computers. The "FASA" value
refers to the incorrect MaxTech cost or BV, while the
"BMD" value refers to the correct BattleMech Designer
computation.

HMR-3S Hammer

FASA Battle Value: 526
BMD Battle Value: 528

There is no known reason for the 2 BV discrepency. It
could merely be a typo, or a difference in rounding.

FS9-O Firestarter-F

FASA cost: 10,130,063
BMD cost: 10,440,454

The FASA cost calculations do not appear to include the
price of the two ER Medium Lasers or the ER Small Laser.

BJ2-O Blackjack-E

FASA cost: 8,468,751
BMD cost: 9,080,471

FASA Battle Value: 1134
BMD Battle Value: 1158

The FASA cost calculations do not appear to inlcude the
price of the Light Gauss Rifle, the two tons of Light
Gauss Rifle ammunition, or the ER Small Laser.

The FASA BV calculations appear to count one too many
tons of explosive ammunition (20 points for explosive
ammunition, times the movement factor multiplier of 1.2
equals 24, the exact difference between the FASA and BMD
battle value calculations.) In this case, the Light
Gauss Rifle ammunition may have mistakenly been counted
as being "explosive."

P1 Perseus Prime

FASA cost: 19,526,719
BMD cost: 20,303,829

The FASA cost calculations do no appear to include the
price of the four ER Medium Lasers, the ER Small Laser,
or the two tons of Ultra AC/10 ammunition

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

P1 Perseus-B

FASA Battle Value: 1398
BMD Battle Value: 1446

The FASA BV calculations appear to count two too many
tons of explosive ammunition (40 points for explosive
ammunition, times the movement factor multiplier of 1.2
equals 48, the exact difference between the FASA and BMD
battle value calculations.) The only discernable reason
for this may be due to the leg-mounted AMS ammunition,
which FASA may have accidentally counted twice for the
purposes of explosive ammo.

P1 Perseus-C

FASA cost: 18,179,219
BMD cost: 19,472,032

FASA Battle Value: 1463
BMD Battle Value: 1487

The FASA cost calculations do no appear to include the
price of the Light Gauss Rifle, the two tons of Light
Gauss Rifle ammunition, three tons of Ultra AC/10
ammunition, and three ER Medium Lasers

The FASA BV calculations appear to count one too many
tons of explosive ammunition (20 points for explosive
ammunition, times the movement factor multiplier of 1.2
equals 24, the exact difference between the FASA and BMD
battle value calculations.) In this case, the Light
Gauss Rifle ammunition may have mistakenly been counted
as being "explosive."

AWS-9M Awesome

FASA Battle Value: 1445
BMD Battle Value: 1469

The FASA BV calculations appear to count one too many
tons of explosive ammunition (20 points for explosive
ammunition, times the movement factor multiplier of 1.2
equals 24, the exact difference between the FASA and BMD
battle value calculations.) The only discernable reason
for this may be due to the leg-mounted Streak SRM-2
ammunition, which FASA may have accidentally counted
twice for the purposes of explosive ammo.

Turkina-C

FASA Battle Value: 2464
BMD Battle Value: 2501

There is no known reason for the 37 BV discrepency.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

TDK-7KMA Thunder Hawk

FASA Battle Value: 1562
BMD Battle Value: 1610

The FASA BV calculations appear to count two too many
tons of explosive ammunition (40 points for explosive
ammunition, times the movement factor multiplier of 1.2
equals 48, the exact difference between the FASA and BMD
battle value calculations.) The only discernable reason
for this may be due to the leg-mounted Arrow IV
ammunition, which FASA may have accidentally counted
twice for the purposes of explosive ammo.
